another fun weekend in CT

geez i'm a bad blogger. but in my defense i have a cold and it's the holidays so i've been busy darn it!
first things first, foster had giardia, a parasite that lives in pond/lake/stream water. probably got it from being a camel and drinking nasty pond water while out in the westboro WMA with daddy. we humans sometimes get it from doing the same thing when hiking/backpacking. that's why it's always important to carry a filter or iodine tablets with you when you're roughing it! one round of antibiotics later and the little pup is totally fine! not sure how we're going to avoid this happening in the future but we'll see.......
ok, lets recap yet another super-fun weekend down in CT! after getting foster's health situation figured out we headed down to the nutmeg state. first stop.....NH where not only did we get to visit mom & dad S but we had a surprise visit from cousin katie and her yellow lab cooper!!! well you can imagine he and foster had quite a bit of fun together running around. cooper is ~7 months old i think and 50-something lbs.
cousin katie & cooper
sniff, sniff (getting acquainted)cuddling up with his grandma
and cousin k
after getting all tuckered out foster curled up in his favorite spot in any person's house.....the heating grate....zzzzzzzzafter catching some z's in NH we headed over to d & m's place for another visit with the silver fox himself....steely! don't remember steely? check out an old post from our last visit to CT. here's the one and only steely, who's about 7 months nowhanging out with another person my size, d & m's daughter dani
playing outside
unfortunately hubby came down with the cold that i now have (thanks hunny!) so we had to forgo our trip to see baby norah. :(( here she is with her aunt jenna, who i know was very excited to meet foster. sorry we missed you jenna!!!

we'll be sure to stop in on our next trip down when we're germ free!!

hope everyone has a great thanksgiving tomorrow!!! eat plenty and be merry! don't forget, elastic waistbands are the best way to enjoy thanksgiving-yum!

Book Meme

I was tagged by my friend liz to participate in a book meme. never heard of that before? me neither but it sounds fun!

here's the deal......
1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open it to page 56.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the sentence in your journal along with these instructions.
5. Don’t dig for your favorite book, the cool book, or the intellectual one: pick the CLOSEST.

ok, so i happen to have the 3rd book in stephenie meyer's vampire series, eclipse, with me at work today to give to my friend renee to read. so here's the 5th sentence on page 56....

He rolled his eyes. "I don't think you were in any danger."

i know that's 2 sentences but it's all dialogue and i didn't want, "he rolled his eyes" to be it! it's way more fun with the 2 sentences together. hmmmmm....perhaps i'm not very good at this meme thing!
now i get to tag two people who hopefully will do it too. and since i only have 2 friends (besides liz) who have blogs i will tag my sis katie and my friend catie. have fun!!
happy friday!!
p.s.-doc says foster is ok, getting his poop examined and we will find out the details tomorrow. thanks for the well wishes!!

another tummy ache

sorry i haven't been on much this week. i have been almost completely absorbed with the twilight book series i'm reading. you've probably heard of them since a movie based on the first book is coming out today.
mortal girl falls in love with vampire, he loves her and resists the urge to eat her....sounds weird and crazy i know but i love them! as do several of my friends at work and yes we're all going to see the movie on monday-yippee!!!
in puppy related news....foster has been feeling a bit under the weather these last few days. :( i will spare you the details since they're kind gross but he needs to go outside often and it's not pretty. however his demeanor has been fine and he's still eating. hubby is calling the vet today to see if we should postpone our trip down to CT this weekend. :((
i'll post an update when i know more.......poor puppy!

another week, another few lbs!

foster had another quick trip to the vet today for his last set of shots. he got weighed and he's now up to.......33lbs! he also got his rabies tags which we put on his collar. he can't hide from us now-his collar jingles all around the house!
not much to recap over the weekend. it rained alot and we were pretty lazy around here. i snapped a few pics from our saturday morning walking in the pouring rain.
foster went into the assabet river to retrieve a stick and came out with green slime on his head!
it supposed to start getting pretty darn cold around here this week. we'll see how foster likes freezing temperatures!

i was looking at some old pictures of foster the other day and i noticed a few that looked the same but a month apart. i thought i would share the comparison with you.
getting some loves in october

goodbye 20's

well today ends my decade in the 20's. as of 6:23pm tonight i will officially be 30.

i have some great memories from my 20's......
lived in santa fe and came back with a life-long friend
graduated from uconn with a BS in cytogenetics and later with an MS in genomics
saw countless friends get married and have babies
watched my mom beat cancer
watched my sis start a family
things ended very well with 29 being probably the best year i've had to date. married my soulmate, bought a house, got a puppy, got promoted at work....all good things! and of course i'm blessed to have such great friends and family, all happy and healthy.
here's to another decade with a whole new batch of memories!

16 weeks old!

as of yesterday foster the puppy is 16 weeks old! he is fully house trained, recognizes his name and he knows sit, stay, come, heel and fetch!
we have had to expand his crate twice since he came home with us. he's now using half of this gigantic crate! hard to imagine someday he will take up the whole thing!
as a true sign of growing up he has started to loose his baby teeth! so far 2 on the bottom and 1 on the top. my little brown bear cub is growing up. :(thankfully he has not outgrown snuggling and playing with us all the time! as usual i'm the one taking the pictures but i swear he loves me too!

getting some loves
can't wait to see what the next 16 weeks have in store! famous last words.......

puppy fun with dakota and baron

sorry to be MIA for a few days there. i didn't have too much to post and was very busy last week. foster had yet another fun weekend these past few days tho!
one thing that's great about hudson, and our neighborhood, is there's lots of other puppies around to socialize with. on saturday while we were outside raking leaves one of neighbors walked by with her springer spaniel puppy dakota, who is a few weeks younger than foster. we let them play for a while in the fenced in part of our yard. foster has finally encountered another animal that is smaller and faster than he is!
they're having fun i swear!

today we had a puppy play date with my friend mali and her golden retriever puppy baron, who's about 6 months old i think. we went for a walk in the stow conservation land which was alot of fun! well, except for the 1000 ticks we've been picking off the dog and ourselves since then! greeting eachother in typical puppy fashion
baron in mid-air
best budshere comes trouble

on top of all that foster got to play around in the millions of leaves that we finally raked up this weekend. the fun never seems to end for this little brown bear cub!

time for another tick check....

life is good

married life is great. our weekends now amount to entertaining our puppy and hanging out in our house. life is good. :)
saturday morning we were all up bright and early, as foster is not a late sleeper. amazingly he is still quite the little snugglebug despite being almost 30 lbs now. he still thinks he can fit in my lap. i usually give him some assistance as i LOVE being snuggled with. yes this is me first thing in the morning rockin the sweat-sedoof course there's plenty of loving to go aroundsaturday was a pretty fun-filled day for the little brown bear cub! daddy shot a duck this past week and saved the wings for foster to retrieve in the yard. he is really doing great sniffing out the wing too if dave hides it somewhere.
sitting pretty in the yard
later on saturday we went for a walk around gates pond, which is actually hudson's drinking water supply. we met all sorts of other furry friends! my favorite of which was this old english sheepdog-first time seeing one in person!
c'mon i want to chase those other doggies!!
foster has quite the nose. three times while we were walking he walked off the road into the woods with his nose down and came out with a half-eaten apple. three times!!
watch out here i come!

more to come on this weekend another day. GO PATS!!!!
