all of a sudden the temps here have dropped and it is suddenly feeling alot like fall. no complaints from the 7 month pregnant lady. last weekend we went apple picking with some friends & co-workers at a lovely little orchard in stow called carver hill. we picked macs, cortlands & macouns in the beautiful 70-degree sunshine. pair that with some donuts & cider and i was VERY happy!
with all these apples lying around i pressed my sister for some recipes besides my usual apple crisp. she gave me a few and i decided to start with the easiest one: apple sauce. i love it and it's a bit healthier than ice cream for a snack.
cut up 4 apples, i recommend cutting slightly smaller pieces than i did-i used cortlands (i think). put in a pot with 3/4 cup water, 1/4 cup sugar & 1/2 tsp cinnamon. i LOVE cinnamon so i may have used a bit more.....
put on medium heat & let sit for 15-20mins, stirring occasionallytake off heat, let cool, then mash! i used a potato masher, i think next time i will use my stick blender since mine was a bit chunky.
easy & yummy! thanks sis!! next i will try apple bread.....
My husband could and should make some applesauce for us....
ReplyDeleteIf you throw it all in teh crockpot it also comes out yummy! And less chunky.
ReplyDeleteLooks good! I may have to try that!
ReplyDeleteDOH!! You're supposed to cover the pot!! Sorry about that.
ReplyDeleteI did this with the kids at work today and they loved it! We used 6 apples and it was gone by the end of the day!
